ETDD Census Data

This report examines statistical data from U.S. Census materials with a focus on economic and demographic characteristics for the 16 counties that make up the East Tennessee Development District. It uses data from the U.S. Decennial Census and American Community Survey Five-year Estimates as its primary sources, with supplemental material from the National Historical Geographic Information System and the LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics (LODES). Data in Each Sub-Dashboard

Topics that will be discussed in the summary report for each county are:

  • Demographic Characteristics

    • Population growth from 1970 to 2020

    • population density

    • sex, race, and age

    • educational level of the adult population

    • housing characteristics in terms of age of the housing stock and type of tenure

  • Economic Characteristics:

    • family income, household income, and per capita income

    • poverty status of families

    • employment classification according to industry

    • labor force by place of work and commuting patterns

  • Click on the tab for the category of information you want

  • Click on the tab for the table and graph you want

  • Most graphs are interactive- if you hover your mouse over them you will notice controls like zooming in or out. You can hover over data points to get the exact numbers and category label (which are also in the corresponding table). You can click and drag to limit the graph to a smaller part of the overall data. On some graphs, if you click on the color boxes to the side you can show/hide some of the categories in the graph.
